The eBook industry is growing up; the signs are evident that now more than ever it’s a great time to be an indie author or independent publisher focusing primarily on eBooks.
Consider the following industry stats from Author Earnings Report:
- A third of Amazon’s eBook sales are from independent authors who are not affiliated with a publishing company at all.
- 30% of eBooks sold in the U.S. don’t have ISBNs and aren’t even counted in the total sales.
- By mid-2014, indie authors as a whole superseded the sales of the big publishers, garnering 40% of total eBook sales.
- Jasinda Wilder, long time independent eBook author, just landed a seven-figure deal for her Madame X books. After self-publishing for years, her efforts are paying off in a big way.
- Meredith Wild has been signed to a five-book deal after self-publishing eBooks that have grown wildly popular.
