Self-publishing eBooks has opened so many opportunities for writers, and being an indie author is an attainable goal for many. But do make an effort to avoid these eBook publishing mistakes to enjoy better success:
Think Long-Term
The biggest eBook publishing mistakes come from assuming your eBook is all you need. Don’t simply publish an eBook. Develop a long-term publishing strategy. Is it possible that you can create a series from your eBook idea? Perhaps you could offer complementary products or publications, such as a YA version of a novel; as well, you may want to make a podcast available to your readers. Consider all of the opportunities created by eBook publishing, not just a single eBook.
Do It Right
Don’t be so quick to publish an eBook that you don’t take the time necessary to do a good job. Write well, edit aggressively, proofread carefully, and market profusely. There’s no point in publishing quickly if what you publish is of a quality that won’t be read.
Market, Market, and Market Some More
Indie authors and self-publishers don’t have an entire agency or publishing firm behind them providing ongoing marketing efforts to promote the book or you as the author. All of that falls on your shoulders right along with writing great eBooks. So market and market well. Marketing should begin long before the eBook is published.
